If you are one of the many people out there that has recently been diagnosed with hypothyroidism then you will probably already appreciate just how much of a headache it can actually be to shed even a small amount of weight! The reality is that this condition is getting more and more prevalent as times passes, and it could affect anyone!

There are about 29 million people all over the United States who are actually suffering from hypothyroidism and have been officially diagnosed with the condition. But along with these people there are many more millions out there who are still awaiting to be diagnosed and given the adequate treatment they need to get healthy again.

However doctors out there are also finding that there is a massive increase in the number of people that are suffering from a condition known as subclinical hypothyroidism. A person who has this will experience a lot of the symptoms that are usually common among hypothyroidism patients but when the doctor does tests, it turns out their thyroid is working okay. The only reason this condition comes about in the first place is because of poor nutrition… so a simple change in diet will totally change things around.

One of the negative impacts of hypothyroidism is that the person’s metabolism will slow right down which will mean that they will burn far fewer calories than a normal person.

This happens because the person’s thyroid glands aren’t producing enough thyroid hormones (T3 and T4). These are the very hormones that are responsible for making sure that your base metabolic rate is as high as possible.

If you don’t have enough of these hormones then you’re just not going to burn as many calories! This is the exact reason why losing weight can be such a chore when you have hypothyroidism!

But you see if you just follow the tips that I share with you in this article then I can assure you that losing weight will never be a problem again!

Step One: Be Sure To Get Your Doctor To Give You a Proper Diagnosis and Treatment

The most essential step of all is to make sure that your doctor actually gives you an official diagnosis. This is the only way you are going to be able to move forward and actually get your health back to where it needs to be.

Your doctor will basically give you a blood test which will measure the amount of T3, T4 and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) you have in your blood stream. If the results come back and show that you indeed have extremely low levels of thyroid hormone (T3 and T4) but really high levels of TSH then it’s highly likely you will be diagnosed as having hypothyroidism.

If the results show that you do have an underactive thyroid, then your doctor will more than likely prescribe you with some sort of synthetic T4. The most common medication that you will probably be given is something that is known as levothyroxine. This will help to get your levels of thyroid hormone right back up to the healthy range again.

Step Two: Begin Eating Healthy and Nutritious Meals Again

Once you have been to your doctor your next step is going to make sure that you start eating extremely healthy and nutritious meals. This is the one key step that can totally change your life and help you lose all the weight that you want to lose. The best thing you can do is to start making sure that every single meal that you sit down for contains a healthy portion of vegetables and a good portion of protein.

The reason why protein is so important is because from the three main macronutrients, fats, carbs and protein… it’s the most satiating of them all. This means you’ll literally be going about your day for hours on end without feeling any sort of need to eat… which is great when you want to shed that excess fat. Of course consuming protein has the other benefit of actually preserving all the metabolism boosting muscle!

Step Three: Consume Fiber Rich Foods Instead of Processed Junk

Believe me, if you’re main mission is to get into really great shape then you are going to have to totally cut out all those junk foods from your life. They are just empty calories that are doing you no good but rather they are causing you to gain a lot of weight! Instead you should focus all your time and energy toward eating foods that contain a good amount of fiber because they are really great for your digestive system.

The other benefit of consuming a lot of foods that are high in fiber is that they will prevent you from getting hypothyroidism induced constipation and of course these foods are really satiating which is a great bonus when you’re trying to lose weight.

Step Four: Implement a Proper Fitness Routine

No matter how busy your actual schedule may be, there’s no excuse for you not to do some form of exercise on a regular basis. After diet, exercise is the next most important thing and it will help you lose that much more weight so please make sure that even if you’re only able to dedicate ten minutes a day that you do something!

Not only will doing exercise help you burn a lot of calories but doing things like resistance training will actually help you to build up some muscle mass which is again extremely important to rev up your metabolism!

As you probably already know, the higher your metabolism the more calories you are going to burn over the long term. And before you know it you will end up in the best shape of your life!

Regardless of what happens, just make sure that you really put in the effort every single day of your life.

Those people that put in the work are the ones that are able to overcome their underactive thyroid and get into really incredible shape and health.
